Why do you think Metal appeals to Horror fans, and vice versa?

I began with horror before i got into metal - in the past i was into aqua and at one point shirley bassey but I would think it was because of the darkness - metal, despite what the lyrics are, sounds dark I think i turned out quick gothy because i love horror and the music often blends so perfectly in films - i.e. ghostship! you couldnt really imagine a soundtrakc with busted on it for a film like that, mudvayne etc were the perfect choices!

I LOVE GHOST SHIP! I think it is the darkness and imagery that seems to link the two. I came into things the opposite way around to you - I was into Metal first then got hooked on horror

but wouldnt such a connection exasperate the current debate that metal is linked to crime/death etc. and increases violent tendencies?
They blamed goth and metal for the columbine massacre and every other teen based massacre, Im sure some eejit who doesnt like both will try and get them banned.

There are people out there who are desperate to find a scapegoat for things like that.

like the current emo debate! suicide and emo seem to go hand in hand and metal and death seems to go that way as well you think metal - you think heavy, darkness, evil, horror, and all things bad! no wonder people get the wrong idea but its usually the ones who dont listen to it. I remember i was fighting with the author of a site called whatisemo recently about her belief that being emo and goth was a cult and all their music was brainwashing and make teens kill themselves. She mearly picked out a few lyrics which did sound quite violent but if people would just listen to the song and look into what the song is about - usually bands tell their influences to their music - they will understand its not that bad and they might understand its not the music which influences, its the person!

You're right! Just taking a few lines from a song doesn't really give the full impression of what the song is about. Also, I fully admit that some Metal (particularly Death Metal or Grindcore) can be very violent, but it's meant to be entertainment - The same way that horror films are meant to be entertainment. Just because someone watches a particular film or listens to a particular band or song, doesn't mean that they're going to go out on a killing spree. I know that nobody was disagreeing with me there... I just had the urge to type that! lol

We must all remember there are probably more crimes committed by fans of bop, disco, blues, c&w, rap etc. Atleast we head bangers (most of us) release our tensions in a non violent manor! If you ask me these moon walking hat tilters need to let of some steam by visiting one of Lou's gigs. SO THERE!

F*ck I miss moshing..Nothing better to relieve steam than jumping into the pit \m/ Hell yeah! \m/ I do find that Metal is great for relieving tension. I'd say it has an entirely positive effect on me. Speaking of Metal and Horror... Has anyone seen "Zombie Driftwood"?
