Wearing my Korvus t-shirt to work for one of those "mufti days" that make Fridays that bit more bearable, reminded me that not only had I not played "In The Name of Lucifer" for a couple of weeks, but also that I hadn't yet got around to reviewing it - despite it being in my collection for almost a year.
"In The Name of Lucifer" (it's so weird to use the word "lucifer" with the correct spelling now!) is the product of a one-man band from London and is an incredible work of Black Metal with Gothic undertones. The Gothic element is most prominent in the use of keyboards throughout the album and the symphonic touches lent to many of the songs ("Innocence Defiled", "Baphomet" and "The Bloody Romance" instantly spring to mind).
"In The Name of Lucifer" is a constantly strong album, and one that I find difficult to choose a favourite from. I admit tht the album is not perfect. I feel that it could do with a fuller, more powerful sound in places... but not all of the way through as sometimes this album is at it's best when its being subtle.
Speaking of subtley, even when the music is relatively calm, such is in the track "Baphomet", it still remains eerily menacing and never allows the listener to feel completely comfortable. It's the vampire lurking in the darkness, the noise in a house that should be empty in the middle of the night and the shadow seemingly without an owner in the graveyard. Quite simply put - it's deliciously dark and edgy.
01 Ceremony of Blasphemy
02 Innocence Defiled
03 Possessed by Bloodlust
04 The Bloody Romance
05 Baphomet
06 Religious Torment
07 Kingdom of the Raven
08 In The Name of Lucifer
