For many years 666 has been recognised as the Number of the Beast, but in 2005 it was reported that some Oxford University scholors had discovered that the number is actually 616. There are also claims that the number is 665. Whatever the number is, it definitely seems to hold some superstitious and supernatural meaning to many people - particularly those in the western world. Further information can be found on this page on Wikipedia. So, what does the number mean to you?

good point what does the number represent anyway? and what would it mean if it were different to what we have always believed? just more questions to be answered!

just found this on Lous link above!
One interpretation is that 666 encodes the letters of someone’s name or title, identifying the Antichrist.

Another question could be - Why does the Antichrist even have a number? Do other beings have numbers? What is the number's significance?

I still can't find what the number is actually used for, but I did find this: Original SourceMan cut off hand bearing 'number of the beast'A MAN who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off his hand, then cooked it in a microwave and called police. The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when Kootenai County sheriff's deputies arrived at his home in Hayden, Idaho. He is now in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Centre. "It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," sheriff's Capt Ben Wolfinger said. The full article contains 89 words and appears in n/a newspaper. Page 1 of 1

It's clearly 666, because I've written that number a few times and felt like I was being watched by evil entities. 666 also stands for the Son of the Devil, or The Omen, in which the Beast is nicknamed. The Beast's face would be seen clearly in the latest edition of The Omen the movie, and it's creepy as hell.
616, I don't think means anything. It's just a group of students trying to get themselves some fame and glory.
And 665 is just a prefix to one of the phone areas in the US.

It's clearly 666, because I've written that number a few times and felt like I was being watched by evil entities. I'm just playing at being Devil's advocate here (excuse the pun! ), but could it be that you felt like you were being watched because you've been told about (and believe) in the supposed evilness of the number? If you'd been told that 9 was the Number of the Beast all of your life then it would probably work with that as well. 666 also stands for the Son of the Devil, or The Omen, in which the Beast is nicknamed. The Beast's face would be seen clearly in the latest edition of The Omen the movie, and it's creepy as hell. Yes, this is a movie and so I wouldn't really use it as a source for information. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think it's good to actually question these things. We are told that 666 is the Number of the Beast, but why is it? Why not another number? What does it mean? Does writing 666 six hundred and sixty six times summon Satan? I guess this is also why I have chosen not to follow any organised religion. I'm not going to believe in something or someone just because someone told me too (especially when it's something that can't really be proved [such as the existance of God... don't get me started]) - I'd rather base my faith and beliefs on my own experiences and in what I feel is right and wrong. I think that's a healthier way for me to be (I can't comment for others).

Right now no one really knows. I've written 666 plenty of times and even if I felt those kinds of entities I've also felt safe because of the number 777, which is my lucky number, apparently. I am a Baptist, so yeah, I would be torn in between the truth or what could be a lie. No one would know until they die, of course.

I'm in no hurry to find out though! 777 is the name of a demolition company here. I doubt that has any relevance to anything, but I thought I'd mention it

Seriously, I've seen 777 more than I've seen 666, so I'm starting my number just might be somewhere in between 555 and 777, because, trust me, 555 is like, a frequent number that pops up a lot, but not as much as 777 does for me. But anyway, I think it's possibly 666, since everyone in my family believes it is. Of course, like I said earlier, we will never know until the day we die.

I found some more information on this in a book that I've got at home. When I have some more time I'll type up an extract from it and post it on here...
