I wasn't completely sure what would come under the title "Satanic Music", but I think that Black Metal could prove popular with anyone who is looking for that kind of thing.

Obviously, not all Black Metal is satanic (in fact, quite a lot of it isn't), so this thread is to discuss all things BM and not just the grimly evil stuff!

So, are there any Black Metal fans here?

Feel free to join in the conversation whether you like the satanic stuff or not.

Even if you're not a fan, what do you think of the genre? Do you despise it? If so, why?

If you love it, why do you love it? Which bands really float your boat?

No, Black Metal isn't about worshipping the devil. To be honest you can get Death Metal bands with satanic lyrics as well, so the satanism thing isn't exclusive to BM. I suppose you could also have a devil-worshipping pop group as well

Black Metal is just another variation of Metal. The lyrics are usually very dark (but not always based around Satan!), often the production is very raw and the vocals are growled and raspy. That's pretty much the basics of it anyway. It works really well when you get bands that combine BM with Thrash or Death Metal.

There's some Black Metal on the Loucifer Speaks album. Orion and Sammath are two bands with a very traditional Black Metal sound. Devilish Impressions and Artisian combine Black Metal with a heavy dose of Death Metal... and Plutonium are a Black Metal / Industrial Metal hybrid.
